The plan

Over the course of the next two weeks we will be working on audio podcasts. The plan is as follows

Team task

  • Decide on a theme for your podcast. For example, you may want to review mashup artists, report on copyright issues, review video mashups, reporting on life at UMW, or History 101.
  • Sign up for a free service to host your podcast. For example, podbean.com.
  • Make an image for your podcast (300x300 pixel is best)
  • Decide if you want theme music for intro / outro. If so find or create theme music.
  • Make sure every team member knows how to upload podcast episodes.
  • You must generate a feed for your podcast (a way I can subscribe to your podcast).
    • You must demo this by subscribing to your podcast in iTunes.
  • You will demo your progress on this task at class on 29 Oct.

Individual task (can also be done in pairs) due class time 3 November

  • Create a 1.5-3 minute podcast episode based on your teams podcast theme. The main content of the podcast should be at least one person talking.
  • I am looking for a moderately polished result. You might want to use intro and outro music. If you are reviewing a mashup artist. You could play a bit of that artist. The podcast audio file should include artwork (for ex., the 300x300 image mentioned above). You can use iTunes to add images to mp3s. Since the podcast is only 2-3 minutes you can devote time to making it sound professional. Even with Garageband or Audacity (and built-in mic) you can create a reasonable sounding podcast.
  • The podcast should contain legal content. Intro and Outro music, for example, must be podsafe. If you are reviewing a mashup artist, playing a short clip of his music is considered fair use.
  • You should upload your podcast episode to your team's podcast site.
  • There are a variety of tutorials on the web for how to create a podcast using Audacity or Garageband.

Individual task due class time 10 November

  • a second podcast episode following the same instructions as above.

Class time to work on project

  • 15-20 minutes on 27 October
  • 20-30 minutes on 29 October
  • 15 minutes on 3 November just before presentations.
